Tomāto Tomăto

Tomāto Tomăto

No matter how you say it, tomatoes are a favorite of ours on the farm. Each year, my dad – Dix Roberts, plants all of our tomato and pepper plants in his sunroom in Penrose, Utah. This year he started about 1500 plants!

Once they are up a few inches they are transported to the farm in Layton and put in the greenhouse. After a few weeks when their roots are established, we replant them into 6 inch pots. We try to give the repotted tomato plants at least 6 weeks in the greenhouse before moving them outside, the warm and humid environment helps the plants become established and for the roots to grow. This ensures a strong and healthy plant that is ready for you to plant outside as soon as the threat of frost has passed.

The tomato plants love the warm environment and will typically grow 18-20 inches in just a few short weeks. This year we will have about 400 plants available for sale at our produce stand as soon as the nights are warm enough to move them outside.

One of the things we look forward to each summer is the first caprese salad with fresh tomatoes and basil, this year we will also have a few sweet basil plants to add to your garden.

We've had several customers ask when we will be selling our potted plants this year and we're happy to announce that the answer is very soon, in fact they will be available for sale on Saturday, May 11th at our stand in Layton Utah!

Whether you are planning on planting tomatoes in your garden or only have room for a container garden on your deck or balcony, these tomato and basil plants are ready to be taken home and getting to work growing delicious food for you and your family.
